Daily Nation features writer Paul Letiwa got engaged to his long-term girlfriend, Sheila Tanui, over the weekend. The writer, 32, who won the Nation Media Group Journalist of the Year Award in 2010, announced his engagement on twitter on Sunday.

The two, who have dated for three years, are said to be planning to wed later this year.  They announced their engagement at The Smith Hotel in Kajiado County while having what Ms Sheila termed as a surprise dinner from her boyfriend who had been out of Nairobi for a few days.

After their announcement they received dozens of congratulatory messages from family and friends on social media.

Mr Letiwa has been writing feature articles for Daily Nation in Nairobi since 2010, majoring in finance, property and social affairs. Before joining Nation Media Group he was a reporter at KBC radio.

Sheila, who has been teaching English Literature at a private school in Nairobi, joined the University of Cape Town in South Africa last year to study international relations.
