Foreign nationals are free to invest and operate businesses in Kenya as long as they comply with the country’s immigration and business regulations, Dr. Abdul Odhiambo has said.

Odhiambo said the Government recognises the contribution of businesses established by foreign nationals to Kenya’s economy and remains committed to creating an environment where legitimate investments can thrive.

He said the Government was also working to address irregularities that had previously affected the management and regulation of foreign-owned businesses, with the aim of ensuring that all operators comply with established legal requirements.

According to Odhiambo, the focus is on promoting lawful and orderly business operations while protecting the integrity of Kenya’s regulatory framework.

He urged foreign business owners already operating in the country to continue contributing to the economy but ensure that they have the necessary permits, licences and documentation required by law.

“Foreign nationals are welcome to invest and conduct legitimate business in Kenya, provided they comply with the country’s immigration and business regulations,” Odhiambo said.

He called for continued support for Government efforts to strengthen compliance and ensure that businesses, regardless of ownership, operate within the law.

Odhiambo’s remarks come amid increased attention on the regulation of businesses operated by foreign nationals, with the Government seeking to balance the economic benefits of foreign investment with enforcement of immigration and commercial regulations.

He reiterated that legitimate foreign-owned businesses have a place in Kenya’s economy, provided their owners meet all legal and regulatory obligations.

The Government is expected to continue addressing gaps in the regulation of foreign businesses as it seeks to promote a more orderly and compliant business environment.
