Bolt Dismisses Claims of Kenya Exit, Says Operations Continue Normally

Ride-hailing company Bolt has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming it is planning to cease operations in Kenya, terming the information false and misleading.

In a statement issued on June 1, 2026, the company said a document purportedly originating from Bolt Kenya and announcing the suspension of operations from June 8, 2026, was fraudulent.

“It has come to our attention that a fraudulent document purporting to be an official communication from Bolt Kenya is currently circulating on social media and messaging platforms. The document falsely claims that Bolt will cease operations in the Kenyan market effective 8th June 2026,” Dimmy Kanyankole, Bolt’s Senior General Manager for East Africa, said.

Bolt categorically denied authoring or issuing the document.

“We wish to categorically state that this document is FAKE and did not originate from Bolt Kenya or any of its authorised representatives,” Kanyankole stated.

The clarification comes amid widespread circulation of the document online, triggering speculation among drivers and customers about the future of one of Kenya’s largest ride-hailing platforms.

Bolt said its services remain fully operational across the country and reaffirmed its commitment to serving customers and driver-partners.

“Bolt Kenya remains fully operational and committed to serving our driver-partners and customers across the country,” Kanyankole said.

The company added that it remains focused on delivering safe, reliable and innovative transport services while continuing to create economic opportunities for thousands of Kenyans who rely on the platform for income.
