A Nairobi court has rejected media personality and preacher Robert Burale’s bid to have a controversial interview featuring his ex-wife, Rozina Mwakideu, pulled down from YouTube.

The video, titled “My Biggest Mistake Was Marrying Robert Burale,” was uploaded on October 4, 2025, on a YouTube channel owned by Rozina’s brother, popular radio host Alex Mwakideu.

It has since attracted more than 815,000 views and stirred a heated online debate.

Milimani Commercial Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki declined to grant Burale’s request to have the video deleted from all online platforms.

However, the magistrate issued interim orders barring Rozina and Alex from publishing or sharing the interview further until the ongoing case is heard and determined.

“The order only restrains any additional publication of the complained video, but does not affect what has already been posted,” Magistrate Nzyoki ruled, noting that the matter will proceed for mention on February 25, 2026, to confirm the filing of submissions.

Representing the Mwakideu siblings, lawyer Ochiel Dudley told the court that his clients would comply with the court’s directive.

Biggest mistake

The legal battle stems from an explosive interview in which Rozina opened up about her short-lived marriage to Burale, describing it as her “biggest mistake.”

She accused him of emotional neglect and contradictions between his public image and private actions.

“I once held a kitchen knife to my stomach thinking I should just die,” she said, describing the mental strain she endured during the relationship.

Burale, in his suit filed at the Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court, accused Rozina and Alex of defamation, claiming that the interview falsely portrayed him as “manipulative, hypocritical, a swindler, and homosexual.” He argues that the allegations have severely damaged his reputation, ministry, and livelihood.

The preacher further faulted Alex for urging viewers to “share widely,” saying that call amplified the spread of defamatory remarks. Court filings cite multiple timestamps as evidence of how the remarks, allegedly made without offering him a chance to respond, exposed him to ridicule and public contempt.

Burale is seeking Ksh 20 million in damages, a public apology, deletion of all related posts and reuploads, and a permanent injunction against any further publication of the video or similar content.

In his defence, Alex Mwakideu has maintained that he did not know what Rozina would reveal during the recording. Speaking on his Radio 47 show on October 7, Alex distanced himself from some of his sister’s comments, insisting the interview was not meant to tarnish Burale’s image.
