Media personality and preacher Robert Burale has moved to court to sue his ex-wife,  Rozina Mwakideu, and her brother, Alex Mwakideu, accusing them of defamation over a highly charged YouTube interview.

Burale filed suit at the Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court, seeking Ksh 20 million in damages. He claims that the interview titled “My Biggest Mistake Was Marrying Robert Burale” and aired on October 4, 2025, on Alex’s YouTube channel falsely painted him as “manipulative, hypocritical, a swindler, and homosexual,” allegations he says have deeply wounded his reputation and ministry.

Central to the case is preachers claim that neither Alex nor Rozina allowed him to respond, nor conducted proper fact-checking.

The man of God faults Alex for reportedly urging viewers to “share widely,” which he says magnified the reach and damage of the statements.

The court papers highlight multiple time-stamped excerpts from the interview as evidence of how the remarks diminished his standing among “right-thinking members of society,” exposed him to ridicule, and jeopardised his source of livelihood.

Burale now wants the court to order the immediate removal of the video and related posts, a formal public apology published widely, deletion of any reuploads, and a permanent injunction against further publication of the content.

He also asks for both general and aggravated damages, plus the costs of the suit.

The controversial interview

The interview quickly went viral and set off waves of controversy. Rozina used it to describe her time with Burale as her “darkest moment” and her “biggest mistake.”

She claimed she ignored warnings before marrying and endured emotional neglect and contradictions between promises and actions. In one emotional disclosure.

“I once held a kitchen knife to my stomach thinking I should just die,” she said.

She also recounted that when she confronted Burale with rumours, he dismissed them as jealousy from others.

In response to backlash, Alex publicly denied that the interview was a deliberate setup against Burale, insisting he did not know in advance what Rozina would reveal.

On a Radio 47 show on October 7, Alex said he was unaware of everything Rozina would say and distanced himself from some of her statements.

By the time the lawsuit was filed, the interview had amassed nearly 650,000 views on YouTube, and parts of it had been widely reposted across social media.
