The Nairobi Expressway will temporarily close its Museum Hill Exit A from 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025, to 5 a.m. on Sunday, May 11, according to Moja Expressway, the highway’s operator.

This temporary closure is to allow for essential construction and maintenance work, and it may cause minor traffic disruptions for late-night travellers.

In a statement, Moja Expressway advised motorists to use alternative routes, recommending the nearby Haile Selassie Exit to avoid delays. “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience as we carry out maintenance to uphold the expressway’s standards,” the company said, adding that traffic snarl-ups may occur around the closure zone.

A similar closure happened in April, when the Mlolongo Toll Station and Syokimau Entrance A were shut for nearly 10 hours during the construction of the Katani pedestrian overpass.

The Nairobi Expressway, a flagship infrastructure project aimed at easing the city’s chronic traffic congestion, has become a critical artery for thousands of daily commuters since its opening in 2022.

Such disruptions, while brief, almost always cause delays due to diversions and heavy traffic congestion on alternative routes.

The 27-kilometre toll road was developed as part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, alongside projects like the Standard Gauge Railway, under a public–private agreement between the Government of Kenya and China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).
