In a fiery outburst, Honourable Oscar Sudi has publicly accused Cleophas Malala, the former Kakamega Senator, of gross misconduct and misappropriation during his time as UDA Secretary General.

Speaking for the first time since murmurs of discord within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) resurfaced in Echoes of War, the Kapseret MP spared no words.

According to Sudi, Malala’s troubles didn’t begin recently. They’ve been long in the making.

“We supported Malala wholeheartedly when he wanted to become governor,” Sudi began, going steps back in time to the beginnings of their political relationship.
“We gave him a lot of money. But instead of using the resources to campaign, he went and built himself a mansion. That’s why he lost.”

The legislator further revealed that the party had given Malala approximately Ksh100 million for his gubernatorial bid in 2022 — funds that he claims were misused.

After Malala’s defeat to Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, President William Ruto reportedly sought to accommodate him politically, eventually appointing him UDA Secretary General in February 2023.

“But it wasn’t easy,” Sudi noted. “We tried to get him into the Cabinet or as a Principal Secretary, but the National Intelligence Service kept flagging issues about him.”

Sudi went on to accuse Malala of financial misconduct during his brief tenure as SG, claiming the former senator was withdrawing over Ksh5 million from party accounts every week.

“If you ask me, Malala is a thief. He is a very bad thief,” Sudi said bluntly. “He steals without blinking. That’s why he had to go. Nobody is removed from a position by the President without a reason.”

In August 2024, following Malala’s removal, EALA MP Hassan Omar was officially appointed as the new UDA Secretary General.
