The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has begun issuing student loans for upkeep and tuition to students in universities and technical and vocational schools (TVETs) across the country.

Reportedly, starting today, Tuesday, January 15, 2025, HELB will disburse upkeep funds directly to students’ accounts. This applies to those whose batch numbers read “Paid to Account” and whose loan status shows “Disbursement in Progress” in the Student Portal. By now, most tuition loans for these batches have already been disbursed, and the payments are reflecting in their respective school accounts.

Before student loans are disbursed, HELB usually issues batch numbers to students to track and organise their loans. Students can check their loan details and status using their batch number.
