When one door closes, so it’s said, another – sometimes bigger – one opens. That rings true for some journalists who were sacked by The Star newspaper late last year, who have found a soft landing at Kenya’s biggest media house.

In just one month, three former Star newspapers have joined the Nation Media Group. First to join Daily Nation over a month ago is Ibrahim Oruko, who has been assigned to the newsdesk where he is reporting politics and other general news.

Also hired by NMG is Constant Munda, who acted as business editor at the Star for over six months without being confirmed. Munda has joined the Business Daily to bolster its team which has recently been weakened by exits of journalists in the past one year.

Munda’s exit has left The Star newspaper’s business desk headless with interns in charge, as two other business reporters – Richard Mungai and Martin Mwita – had resigned earlier in unclear circumstances.

Munda expected to battle out for space with some of the big names in business journalism at Business Daily.

David Mwere, who used to write politics at the Star, is expected to join Nation soon as well, as the newspaper strengthens its team for the election. The Star has also poached Luke Awich from People Daily to join its expanding team of reporters.
