A visiting Harambee Stars, Kenya’s men’s national football team, suffered a tough loss last night after being beaten 4-1 by the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in their 2025 AFCON qualifier group play match at Japoma Stadium in Douala, Cameroon.

Vincent Aboubakar and defensive midfielder Martin Hongla scored the first two goals for Cameroon in the 8th and 39th minutes, respectively, before renowned Kenyan striker Michael Olunga made it 2-1 with a well-scooped free kick in the 41st minute.

Unluckily for Harambee Stars, Cameroonian forward Bryan Mbeumo, who plays for Premier League club Brentford, also scored in the 43rd minute, just before halftime. Christian Bassogog sealed the win for Cameroon, netting the final goal in the 55th minute in matchday 3 of 6 of the Africa Cup of Nations Qualification.

The result sees Cameroon remain top of the Group J standings with seven points after winning two out of three games, against Namibia and Kenya, the most recent match, and ending in a scoreless tie against Zimbabwe earlier in September.

The scoring explosion was unexpected for Kenyans, who had conceded only one goal in their past two matches before meeting Cameroon.

Throughout the game, the Indomitable Lions controlled possession and outshot Kenya 5-2, with 60.7% ball possession.

Despite the efforts of Kenya’s coach Engin Firat and several tactical changes, the team was unable to stage a comeback, and the game ended 4-1, with Cameroon taking all three points.
