Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua has not promised to pay school fees for Brian Mwenda, a man accused of being a fake lawyer.
According to a post made on Facebook on October 13, 2023, the politician had promised to sponsor Mwenda through his pursuit of a law course.
“Senior Counsel Martha Karua volunteers to sponsor Brian Mwenda’s law course to make his dream come true. ‘I will make sure this young man Brian Mwenda realizes his dream of being a real lawyer. I will sponsor his education to whichever level he wants. His confidence is unmatched’,” the post claimed.
On October 14, 2023, through her verified X account, Karua flagged the information as false, threatening to take legal action against media houses which had fallen victim to the false claim.
“This false reporting is actionable! You must retract immediately and offer a suitable apology else I take necessary legal action. Any serious journalist would differentiate between a parody account and a verified account,” Karua said.
The information was initially shared through a parody X account, @marthak_arua, which has since been pulled down.
Mwenda was arrested and arraigned in October and charged with six counts of uttering a false document, making a false document, as well as a practising certificate.
He pleaded not guilty and was released on a Ksh200,000 cash bail.
The post claiming that Karua will sponsor Mwenda’s education is, therefore, false.
