President William Ruto on Friday, June 30 presided over a ceremony to onboard 5,000 government services to the eCitizen portal. The move is in line with Ruto’s pledge to have all government services digitized so as to make them more accessible to citizens.

Notably, a new Paybill number was also unveiled to be used to make mobile money payments for all government services. At least 1,000 paybill numbers currently used for various government service payments are to be shut down within the next 90 days.

The new Paybill number unveiled by the State is 222 222. Services offered by various state agencies and county governments will be available on the eCitizen platform.

President Ruto also announced the rollout of new digital Identification cards for all Kenyan citizens in the next 90 days. According to the government, the Digital IDs will help improve service delivery and access.

The President slammed the Huduma Namba program rolled out by the previous administration led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta. He maintained that Kenyans got a raw deal.

“In the next 90 days, we must have a Digital ID. Huduma Number was a complete fraud because we lost almost 15 billion shillings and got very little out of it,” he stated. “It is possible for us to have a Digital ID without spending 15 billion and without defrauding the people of Kenya. Those who did that should be ashamed of themselves.”
