Delivery start-up Glovo has appointed Caroline Mutuku as its new General Manager for Kenya.

Founded in Spain in 2015, Glovo is an on-demand courier service allowing users to purchase various products through its app and have them delivered. Food delivery remains its most popular offering. The startup began operating in Nairobi in February 2019.

Between December 2021 and July this year, Mutuku served as General Manager of transport startup SWVL’s Kenya operation. Citing the global economic downturn, Swvl stopped intra-city rides in Kenya on June 3, 2022. Swvl further shut down Swvl Travel at the time, leaving only Swvl Business which targets corporations. The move came as Swvl announced plans to cut 30 percent of its global workforce.

Prior to her stint at Swvl, Mutuku spent over five years at consulting giant McKinsey, holding roles including Engagement Manager between October 2020 and November 2021.

She also previously worked at Standard Chartered Bank, taking on several roles between 2012 and 2016, including Manager, Segment Proposition and Solutions – Business Banking.

Reacting to her appointment as Glovo GM, Mutuku stated: “I am delighted to be taking on this role as the General Manager for Glovo Kenya and continue the good work that my peers have done. I am excited to incorporate innovative and fresh ideas to take Glovo to the next level in the market.”

“I am quite optimistic about the very vibrant e-commerce sector in Kenya in the coming years,” she added.

Glovo stated that her experience in strategy, technology and financial services made her a perfect fit for the role.

“During her past experiences, she has been notorious for solving problems using tech
which has created significant growth and long-lasting impact for the stakeholders involved,” a statement from Glovo read in part.
