Twenty people today perished in a grisly road accident at Soysambu near Mbaruk black spot along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

Nakuru County Police Commander Hassan Rashid Barua said the accident that occurred at 2am in the morning involved a bus that was headed towards Nakuru and two trailers.

Speaking from the scene of the accident, Mr Barua said the Superhighway Sacco bus was trying to overtake a trailer but collided head-on with another trailer killing 18 passengers from the bus instantly.

The commander said several other injured passengers were taken to St. Mary’s Mission Hospital in Gilgil for treatment.

Mr Barua said investigations had been launched to establish the cause of the accident, the number of passengers in the bus at the time of the accident and why the bus that is supposed to operate in Githurai 45 was ferrying passengers to Western Kenya.
