Two men have been arrested in Nairobi in midmorning raids as part of an operation by the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) targeting a notorious human trafficking gang.

The arrests of Dakie Jilo, 30, and Salat Galgalo, 20, in the Tasia area of Embakasi Sub-County also led to the rescue of 56 victims, who were believed to be victims of trafficking and have been taken to a place of safety, according to the police.

“During the operation, the officers raided a residential building, apprehended the offenders, and rescued 9 minors and 47 adult victims,” DCI said in a statement on social media.

“The victims were taken to the Embakasi Police Station for protective custody while the suspects were escorted to the Muthaiga Police Station for processing pending arraignment.”

The swift action by the detectives underscores the commitment to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation, the statement added.

DCI called upon members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to assist in apprehending more human smugglers who prey on people’s hope for a better life.
