Vincent Munga from Bungoma is among sixteen millionaires announced in the ongoing “Shukrani Kocho Kocho Kenya Nzima” consumer campaign by Safaricom. Munga, who is a shopkeeper, says he never thought he could win in the promotion and this came as a pleasant surprise.

The orphan in a family of three – a brother and a sister, also the breadwinner – says the money will go a long way in advancing his siblings’ education. “The Ksh1 Million will be of great help to me. I struggle so much to keep my siblings in school while depending on the income from my small shop.  It is a great cushion. I thank Safaricom for celebrating me as a customer,” said Mr Munga.

Other week one winners of Ksh1M include Makori Mogoa Ayienda – North Eastern, Rolyne Kageha Mukunza – Coast, Belinda Atieno Nyang’or – Nyanza, Esther Awino Amoth – Nairobi, Ernest Kaunyangi Nkubitu – Eastern, Daniel Makali Kilobi – Central and Mary Nyambura Mbugua – Rift Valley.

Week two millionaires includes Sofia Mohamed Ali- North Eastern, Japheth Okari Mokua- Nyanza, Nathan Kibiwott Suter – Rift Valley, Naomi Wanjiru Gichoya – Central, Somo Halake Hapicha – Central, and Abraham Agesa Makenzi – Nairobi and Julius Dzuwa Kalume –  Coast.

“The money will change the fortunes of my family. I will put up an electronic shop in Mombasa town because that is what I am experienced in. I have been an employee in an electronic shop for over ten years and for once I will be my own boss,” said Julius Kalume, week two winner from Coast.

Additionally, more than 1.5 million other customers from across the country have already been awarded with weekly cash and daily airtime prizes worth over Ksh78 million.

Winners from every region are randomly selected through weekly draws with more than 500,000 customers expected to win cash prizes of Ksh1,000 and above while more than 5 million other customers stand to win daily airtime prizes.

“We are glad to be celebrating with our first winners of the promotion. Over 100 more Kenyans are still expected to be millionaires in the nine remaining weeks. The aim of this promotion is to celebrate and reward our more than 29 million customers for their continued loyalty over the years. We believe this will transform lives,” said Ms Sylvia Mulinge, Chief Customer Officer, Safaricom.

Earning entries

The ten-week promotion seeks to reward more than 5 million Safaricom customers across the country with more than Ksh250 million in prizes. The campaign is in its third week.
