At this year’s Taxpayers Day Awards ceremony, held on 20th November in Nairobi, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) recognised various institutions and individuals for their exemplary commitment to tax compliance. While the list featured prominent organisations, such as Safaricom and East African Breweries, the individual category had new entrants.
Most notable is the Top Micro Taxpayer category. These awards are dedicated to top small tax payers who have displayed exemplary consistency in compliance and have demonstrated the highest total amount of tax payment significantly supporting national development.
Among them is Angella Okutoyi, a professional Kenyan tennis player who gained prominence after winning the 2022 Wimbledon junior doubles title. Raised by her grandmother, Mary Omukuyia, after her mother’s death, she overcame a difficult background to become a celebrated athlete. Okutoyi, towering in tax payment as the top Micro Youth Taxpayer award, is known for her powerful groundstrokes and has also won gold medals at the All Africa Games.
Others in the micro taxpayer category include Sadrudin Essak Omar and Tabitha Kaari Ndung’u.
TOP TAX SOCIETY CATEGORY
This award recognizes the institution of higher learning that demonstrated the greatest level of support to local communities in improving tax compliance through innovative tax literacy approaches.- Kisii University

Despite threats and intimidation, he categorically refused putting his life at risk at the expense of integrity.
