The UEFA Champions League 2024–25 was underway yesterday, Wednesday, November 27, for Matchday 5 of 8. A total of nine matches were played: FK Crvena zvezda vs VfB Stuttgart, SK Sturm Graz vs Girona FC, Aston Villa vs Juventus, Monaco vs Benfica, PSV Eindhoven vs Shakhtar Donetsk, Liverpool vs Real Madrid, Celtic vs Club Brugge KV, Bologna vs Lille, and Dinamo Zagreb against Borussia Dortmund.
The biggest game of the day was obviously Liverpool vs Real Madrid. The Reds, who are currently top of the Premier League table, got their best revenge for the beating they received in the 2017/18 UEFA Final when Real humiliated them 3-1, that time when Gareth Bale came off the bench and scored a spectacular bicycle kick at the 64th minute. Last night, they defeated the La Liga giants and a record fifteen times Champions League winners 2-0, with goals coming from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo as Kylian Mbappe and Mo Salah missed penalties.
In the other matches: Crvena zvezda defeated VfB Stuttgart 5–1; SK Sturm Graz won against Girona 1–0; Monaco was beaten by Benfica 2–3; PSV won 3–2; Celtic vs. Club Brugge ended in a 1–1 draw; Bologna suffered 1–2; Dinamo Zagreb lost 0–3; and Aston Villa nearly shook the world of football by almost beating Juventus 1–0, but the goal was cancelled, resulting in a 0–0 tie.
