The Teachers Service Commission (TSC), which employs government teachers and regulates the teaching profession in Kenya, has commented on a report circulating on social media claiming it has raised the entry grades for those wishing to pursue any of the Bachelor of Education courses in the country.
The report, which alleges a revision in the academic qualifications required for individuals intending to pursue a degree in education, starting with the cohort that sat their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination in 2024, has been flagged as fake news by TSC.
In an official statement on Monday, the Dr Nancy Macharia-led commission stated that it had not reviewed the standards of education and training for individuals entering the teaching service, as suggested by the online report, which gained significant attention following the release of the 2024 KCSE results last week.

“Beware of fake news! The requirements for persons wishing to join the teaching service are outlined on our official website. Stay informed,” TSC warned.
The fake report had claimed that the commission had raised the entry grades from an average of C+ in all core subjects to a mean grade of B- in Mathematics and English, along with C+ in the subjects one intends to teach in secondary schools.
TSC has reassured the public that the qualification criteria remain unchanged: a minimum overall mean grade of C+ and a C+ or higher in the relevant teaching subjects.
