With two highly anticipated African Nations Championship (CHAN) matches set for Sunday, August 10, 2025, Nairobi is gearing up for a day filled with thrilling football and increased traffic around key sports venues.

Nairobi County Traffic Commandant Joseph Chirchir has issued a traffic advisory to help manage the expected congestion near Nyayo National Stadium and Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, as thousands of fans are expected to attend the Group A fixtures.

To ease the flow of vehicles, Aerodrome Road between Madaraka Roundabout and Bunyala Roundabout will be closed, along with one side of Lang’ata Road from Madaraka to Lusaka Roundabout.

Similarly, one side of Mombasa Road between Lusaka Roundabout and Bunyala Roundabout will remain closed throughout the event.

Chirchir advised motorists heading towards the Central Business District from Mombasa Road to take alternate routes such as Likoni–Enterprise Road via General Motors or the Southern Bypass near Ole Sereni. Those using Lang’ata Road to access the CBD should divert via Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road at Mbagathi Roundabout.

Drivers travelling from the city centre to Thika Road, Ruiru, Juja, or Thika are encouraged to use Limuru Road or Kiambu Road. Matatus ferrying passengers to Kasarani are urged to follow the Ruaraka–Baba Dogo Road and Ngomongo Road through Ngomongo Roundabout.

“Those from Lang’ata Road to the CBD should use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road at Mbagathi Roundabout. Motorists from Nairobi CBD to Thika Road, Ruiru, Juja or Thika should use Limuru or Kiambu Road. Matatus ferrying passengers to Kasarani should use Ruaraka–Baba Dogo Road, Ngomongo Road to Ngomongo Roundabout. Motorists from Thika Road towards the CBD should use either Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road or Limuru Road. Avoid Thika Road unless going to Kasarani Stadium,” the Traffic Commandant stressed

Sunday’s fixtures include Kenya facing Morocco at Nyayo National Stadium at 3:00 pm, followed by Zambia versus Angola at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani at 6:00 pm.

The Harambee Stars currently lead Group A with four points after a resilient 1–1 draw against Angola, despite being a man down for most of that match.

Authorities urge all road users to plan their journeys carefully to avoid delays and ensure safety during what promises to be an exciting day of football in Nairobi.
