Betty Kyalo, a prominent figure in Kenya’s media industry, is facing a challenging situation as her beauty shop, Flair by Betty, is on the verge of being auctioned due to outstanding rent payments.

The auction, set to take place in April 2024 at Leakey’s Storage Limited in Nairobi, was announced by Keysian Auctioneers through a public notice published in newspapers.

The auction items include essential salon equipment such three disassembled wall shelves, a massage bed stand, massage beds, a small service rack, a glass shelf, four large mirrors, towel warmers, and dressing tables.

Additional items up for auction include a microwave, small rolling seats, an office table, barber seats, CCTV cameras, a Huawei router, a small foot massager, a Mac Coffee maker, a Hiluck video recorder, a single-door fridge, and various other miscellaneous items.

She launched Flair By Betty in 2018 when she quit Posh Palace Hair Studio & Spa after a fallout with her co-founder and then best friend, Susan Kaittany. She is among media personalities using their personal brands to venture into business.

The date with auctioneers has drawn attention to the financial difficulties that businesses, including those owned by well-known individuals like Betty Kyalo, are encountering in today’s competitive market and slowing economy.

The auction is slated to be held on April 17, 2024, at Leakey’s Storage Limited on Lunga-Lunga Road in Nairobi. Betty opened her beauty parlour six years ago, in 2018. She moved it to this more spacious and luxurious location in 2019. Besides the business, Betty also has been offering brand endorsement and promotional services through her YouTube channel, which has yet to start attracting big business.

The salon is among businesses run by Betty Kyalo. In 2021, Betty announced the launch of her clothing line BK closet. “It’s been an amazing journey having different stores dress me for years! It’s now time for me to dress the beautiful Kenyan Women who are working hard to be the best they can be,” she said.

In February 2021, she opened her stylish new barber shop, After Shave by Flair, in Upper Hill, Nairobi. It was the an addition to her beauty enterprise which already included high-end salon Flair by Betty.
