Out of the ten most followed YouTube accounts in Kenya, four are media houses – and they are occupying the first five slots; included in the top 5, but in the positions 1, 2, and 4 and 5. With Ruto doing all these, what do you expect? Kenyans can’t afford to miss the news, of course!
At the top, number 1, is Citizen TV Kenya. Citizen TV is the media house owned by well-known Kenyan-born billionaire SK Macharia, owning the umbrella private media holding company Royal Media Services. Its YouTube channel, as the most-trusted TV station for news as it prides itself, is the most followed by Kenyans with 5.42 million total subscribers as of 2024-25.
The YouTube channel belonging to multi-media organization Standard Group PLC is the number two most-followed with 2.97M subscribers in total. That is KTN News Kenya. Though the television channel was closed down mid-year this year, Standard Group seems to be updating the YT channel often-ly.

As said, in the list, media houses are in the first two positions in the top five, then in numbers 4 and 5: TV station NTV and Churchill Show’s Churchill Television, respectively. NTV, belonging to regional media conglomerate Nation Media Group (NMG), has 2.6 million YouTube subs, more by less than 200,000 Churchill Television’s 2.43M. The channel at number three and not a media house is TechFreeze with 2.96M.
Six to ten are individual-run channels, the sixth being Alvins Audi (2.4M), focusing on Sports Shorts. DAUGLAS_FYP of comedy content creator Dauglas Osiemo is seventh with 2.2 million subscribers. In that order, the eighth, ninth and tenth are of Somali rapper Sharma Boy, Urban Street and Victor Mochere. See all with stats;
