According to Namwamba, he expects the live broadcasts to begin by the end of the ongoing 2022/23 season. MultiChoice was yet to respond to queries from Business Today by the time of publication.

"Today, only 9 of the 18 FKF PL Clubs are presently stable financially. Of the 9 stable clubs, 5 are funded by GoK agencies/parastatals."

Mwendwa has been in and out of cells and the courts in recent weeks, battling allegations of fraud and embezzlement leveled against him by the State.

The announcement comes amid a fallout in Kenyan football that has seen the Ministry of Sports oust FKF President Nick Mwendwa over alleged corruption and form a caretaker committee to steer Kenyan football for a six-month period.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) sought to have Mwendwa detained for 14 more days to allow for the conclusion of investigations into Mwendwa's activities.

Formation of the committee was among recommendations contained in an inspection report by the Registrar of Sports who had appointed a team to probe the Football Kenya Federation (FKF). The inspection was ordered by the Cabinet Secretary on October 14 amid claims of fraud, embezzlement and mismanagement at FKF which is led by Nick Mwendwa.
