Showmax, the video streaming service owned by MultiChoice Group Ltd., is ramping up its original African content slate with the upcoming release of Adam to Eve, a new Kenyan dramedy that tackles themes of gender and privilege through a supernatural lens. The show, which is part of Showmax’s strategy to capture the expanding digital entertainment market across the continent, is set to premiere on November 26, 2025.
The series, produced by Historia Films, stars Kenyan actor Blessing Lungaho (Untying Kantai) as Adam, a charming Nairobi playboy whose fast-paced life—and misogynistic views—are abruptly halted when a mysterious curse transforms him into a woman, Eve.
High-Stakes Transformation Driving Social Commentary
The premise centers on Adam’s forced confrontation with his own worldview as he navigates daily life as Eve. To reverse the transformation and reclaim his former identity, Adam is required to team up with his introverted twin brother for a mission of good deeds and redemption.
Executive Producer Lizz Njagah highlighted the show’s dual appeal of entertainment and social resonance. “At its heart, Adam to Eve is a story about walking in someone else’s shoes quite literally,” said Njagah. “It uses humor to spark reflection on how we perceive gender and privilege, while reminding us that change often begins with understanding.”
The series aims to tap into the vibrant and evolving conversations about identity and equality taking place across Africa. Head writer and co-director Alex Konstantaras added, “With Adam to Eve, we wanted to blend fantasy and comedy with socially resonant themes. The series is unapologetically funny, deeply Kenyan, and reflective of [these conversations].”
Talent Pool Anchors Production Quality
The dramedy is anchored by an ensemble cast featuring notable Kenyan talent, including Kalasha winners Ellah Maina (Sincerely Daisy) and Celestine Gachuhi (Selina), alongside Kalasha nominee Kieran Ratanya (Varshita).
The production is helmed by the award-winning creative couple Lizz Njagah and Alex Konstantaras (House of Lungula). Konstantaras serves as the series’ head writer, leading a writing team that includes Serah Mwihaki (Single Kiasi) and Tony Koros (Tithes and Offerings). UK-based filmmaker Aggie Nyagari (Janjaruka) co-directs the show with Konstantaras.
The launch of Adam to Eve is a continuation of Showmax’s sustained investment in local productions, which is critical for driving subscriber growth and maintaining a competitive edge against global streaming giants in the region.
