This year, Kenya’s leading telecommunication company, Safaricom, is celebrating its 24th anniversary with its biggest customer thankings yet!

As part of the celebration, themed “24 Years of Transforming Lives: Celebrating Through Service,” Safaricom will have year-long activities to show appreciation to its customers through a variety of service and product offerings, the company stated in an announcement on October 23. Safaricom, listed and traded on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) under the ticker symbol “SCOM,” aims to honour its customers in a meaningful way.

‘As we mark 24 years of connecting Kenyans, I want to immensely thank our loyal customers for walking with us on this exciting journey. Because of you, we have grown from a telco to a cornerstone of innovation, empowerment and progress in Kenya. Your trust and unwavering support have inspired us every step of the way,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO at Safaricom.

The offerings include special M-PESA promotions, data bundle surprises, merchandise giveaways, Mama Pack distribution, transportation delights, and other exciting customer rewards.

Today, we’ll look at some of the most affordable Safaricom data bundle packages available for purchase throughout the anniversary celebrations as the telco renews its commitment to its customers and looks toward its third decade of growth.

1. Subsidised Tunukiwa bundles

The Tunukiwa data bundles package is a personalised service offered by Safaricom, allowing subscribers to choose from a variety of data, SMS, voice, and talk time offers.

Tunukiwa offers are dynamic and change daily based on a customer’s usage preferences, location, and network capacity.

Here are some things to know about Tunukiwa data:

* How to purchase: Dial *444# and select your preferred option.

* Bonga Points: Customers earn Bonga points when purchasing a Tunukiwa offer.
* Transferring: The offer balance cannot be transferred.
* Sharing: Tunukiwa, bonus, promotional, or daily data bundles cannot be shared.

In celebration of its 24th anniversary, Safaricom announced that customers can access and purchase Tunukiwa plans even if they have an Okoa Jahazi debt.

3. Safaricom Hook bundles

Safaricom has a platform called Hook, which offers custom-made tariffs and products for the youth demographic, specifically the 10–24 age group. Eligible customers can join the platform through the Safaricom app or by dialling *555#.

One of the services offered on Safaricom Hook is ‘MakeUrHOOK’, allowing users to choose how much of their airtime credit is allocated to data, voice, or SMS.

Some of the data plans and extras available on Hook include 1.2GB for 1 hour at Ksh20, a Ksh10 1GB YouTube bundle for 3 hours, Ksh50 for 1.5GB valid for three hours, and Ksh20 for 2GB valid for 2 hours to celebrate Safaricom’s 24th anniversary.

Generally, the platform focuses on three areas: technology, career, and culture, enabling Gen Z to pursue their passion points, such as content creation.

“At Safaricom, we are keen on helping our young people leverage the transformative power of technology. Through Safaricom Hook, we aim to provide a platform for young Kenyans seeking inspiration, opportunities, and a sense of belonging in a constantly evolving world. As the name suggests, Safaricom wants to create a lasting connection with a generation that has unique needs,” the Safaricom PLC CEO stated during the platform’s unveiling last October.

Over the past two decades, Safaricom has evolved from a telecommunications provider to a key player in Kenya’s technological, economic, and social transformation. Safaricom has grown exponentially, establishing itself as a pillar of innovation, empowerment, and progress in the country.

Since its founding in 1997 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Telkom Kenya—before Vodafone Group PLC acquired a 40 per cent stake in May 2000—Safaricom’s economic value to society has reached Ksh562.2 billion, while M-PESA’s social value stands at Ksh348 billion, transforming lives by impacting customers, agents, and dealers.

The telco also reported that over 8 million Kenyans have benefited from community projects funded through Safaricom and M-PESA Foundations. Furthermore, it has increased the percentage of women in leadership roles to 42.4%.
