President William Ruto has announced a KSh22 billion government-funded project to dual the Muthaiga–Kikuyu–Kiambu–Ndumberi Road, a major infrastructure upgrade aimed at easing congestion and improving mobility for thousands of commuters and businesses in Kiambu County and the wider Nairobi metropolitan area.
Speaking during a public address in Kiambu County, President Ruto said the project has already cleared key planning stages, including a feasibility study, paving the way for construction to begin.
“Government has finalized plans and secured KSh22 billion to dual the Muthaiga–Kikuyu–Kiambu–Ndumberi road to ease congestion for commuters and businesses,” the President said.
He added that the road project will significantly cut travel time between Kiambu, Kikuyu and Nairobi, improve logistics for local traders and unlock new economic opportunities along the corridor.
Alongside the dualling project, President Ruto announced plans for a new expressway along Thika Road up to Museum Hill, designed to address worsening traffic congestion on one of Kenya’s busiest highways.
“Following a completed feasibility study, an expressway will also be constructed along Thika Road up to Museum Hill to address growing traffic and improve mobility,” he said.
The President further assured residents that stalled road projects in the county would be completed after the government brought on board a new contractor.
“Commitment to infrastructure development remains firm, with a new contractor already in place. Remaining sections will be completed to deliver a fully connected and reliable road network for local communities,” he said.
Nationally, Ruto said Kenya has already completed 10,000 kilometres of paved roads, with an additional 28,000 kilometres mapped for construction over the next decade as part of a long-term infrastructure plan extending to 2032.
“This long-term infrastructure plan aims to connect underserved regions and transform road access across the country,” he noted.
Turning to politics, President Ruto called for unity and calm in Kiambu, citing the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) as a model of cohesion.
“Unity demonstrated by the AIPCA Church stands as a clear example for the people and leadership of Kiambu to follow. Unity is strength and division is weakness,” he said.
He also cautioned residents against politicising internal party processes, noting that January’s polls are UDA party elections and not a contest for county leadership.
“January’s election is for the UDA party and not the governor’s seat, which will come later,” he said, adding that leadership must be earned through service, not division.
The President defended his administration’s development agenda, saying tangible results are already visible across the country.
“Development is driven by planning and delivery, not noise,” he said, pointing to record teacher recruitment, reduced fertilizer costs, affordable housing projects, markets and student hostels.
In Kiambu County, he said 30 new markets are under construction under the government’s economic empowerment programme.
On healthcare, President Ruto said reforms under the Social Health Authority (SHA) have expanded coverage from about eight million to nearly twenty-eight million Kenyans, with Kiambu receiving KSh4.4 billion in health funding over the past year and set to benefit from KSh5 billion worth of medical equipment.
The President also announced the imminent launch of the NYOTA youth entrepreneurship programme, backed by KSh5 billion, which will provide KSh50,000 to each selected young entrepreneur.
He concluded by reaffirming the government’s broader vision to mobilise KSh5 trillion through the National Infrastructure Fund, positioning Kenya on a path from a third-world to a first-world economy through sustained investment, unity and delivery.
“The focus is on delivering tangible projects and growth, not empty words,” President Ruto said.
