Rubis Energy Kenya has intensified its rivalry in the Kenyan fuel retail market by opening a new petrol station along the Eldoret-Iten Road at Sinai in Uasin Gishu County.

The new station, inaugurated on June 27 and named Iten Road Service Station, is the company’s first on the highway. It marks a significant step in its expansion strategy, aiming to capture a larger share of the fuel retail sector in the country, amid fierce competition from players such as Vivo, TotalEnergies and Ola.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Mr Philemon Kiplagat, the business proprietor together with Rubis, said the modernised service station is designed to cater to both motorists and local residents. He said it offers a range of services including fuel, lubricants, a tyre centre, a lube bay, and a full vehicle service centre, alongside car wash amenities and other value-added and after-sales services.

“We are committed to bringing world-class fuelling services closer to Kenyans,” said Kiplagat during the launch. “The Iten Road Service Station is part of the wider strategy to expand Rubis’ footprint and deliver quality products and convenience to our customers.”

“This station will offer quick refuelling in urgent situations, such as when drivers run low on fuel unexpectedly, because it is strategically located along the highway. Easy access to fuel saves time and effort, especially for frequent drivers or those with long commutes to places like Iten, Eldoret and beyond,” he added.

Kiplagat noted that they will also be selling cooking gas and specialised fuels like Ultratec, an additive that cleans engine valves and combustion chambers, improving fuel efficiency and engine performance for vehicles and motorbikes that fuel at the new station.

According to the businessman, the station features modern facilities, including offices for rent, and there are plans to set up a convenience store, a café and other amenities to attract motorists seeking a one-stop experience.

He said the Iten Road Service Station is expected to create both direct and indirect job opportunities for local residents, helping to boost economic growth in the county, which is a key hub with growing vehicle traffic and business activity, having been uplifted to city status just last year.

Its addition strengthens Rubis Energy’s network, which now spans 47 counties across Kenya, reinforcing its position as the second-largest oil marketer in the country, recently overtaking TotalEnergies.
