Kenya Railways has suspended the Nairobi commuter train service between Lukenya and Syokimau stations due to severe flooding that has damaged critical infrastructure.

The disruption, announced early on April 24, follows heavy rains that have battered parts of the city, rendering sections of the railway impassable.

“Kindly note that, owing to a blockage of the line at Mukuru, the morning link trains to Lukenya and Syokimau will not run,” a suspension notice sent to passengers reads.

The affected route, a key link for commuters in the Nairobi metropolitan area, will remain closed until further notice.

In a statement, Kenya Railways said stopping the service was necessary to keep passengers safe and allow for quick repairs.

The company promised to keep the public updated on the progress and asked travellers to follow official channels for news on when the trains will start running again.

“Our team is on the ground working to ensure that normal services are restored as soon as possible,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, meteorologists warn of continued heavy rainfall, raising concerns about further disruptions across one of the country’s main transport networks in the city.
