Melania Trump, First Lady of the United States, has declined an offer to be featured on the cover of Vanity Fair, according to people familiar with the matter. The proposal was made by the magazine’s new global editorial director, Mark Guiducci.

The decision comes amid reports that some Vanity Fair staff members opposed the prospect of featuring the first lady, with at least one mid-level editor reportedly threatening to quit if the cover went forward.

“’If [Guiducci] puts Melania on the cover, half of the editorial staff will walk out, I guarantee it.” a mid–level editor told the Daily Mail on Monday.

“I will walk out the motherf***ing door, and half my staff will follow me… If I have to work bagging groceries at Trader Joe’s, I’ll do it… It sickens me.”

Mrs. Trump is currently preoccupied with several other projects, including her “Fostering the Future” initiative, the “Be Best” campaign, and a new role with the “Presidential Artificial Intelligence Challenge.”

During recent peace talks with Russia and Ukraine, she penned a heartfelt personal letter to Vladimir Putin, which President Trump hand-delivered to the Russian leader before their summit in Alaska.

Addressing him as “Dear President Putin”, she wrote: “It is time” to protect children and future generations around the globe.

Melania was notably excluded from Vanity Fair and Condé Nast’s Vogue during her husband’s first presidency, despite both magazines frequently spotlighting first ladies. She did appear on the cover of Vanity Fair Mexico in 2017.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama appeared on Vogue’s cover three times during President Barack Obama’s two terms in office and Jill Biden landed two Vogue covers during President Joe Biden’s term.
