Slightly more than a week after the Ministry of Education announced the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results on January 9, 2025, Lugulu Girls’ High School finally received theirs today. Why was there a delay?
Lugulu Girls, a national school for girls in Bungoma County, was among five schools whose results were withheld by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) due to suspected exam malpractice, including cheating. The majority of the 4,000 students affected, according to Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, were from this prestigious institution in Misikhu, Webuye Constituency.
Now that their KCSE results have been released, the school has received them, and the principal, Mrs Dinah Cheruiyot, has said that everyone is happy—parents, teachers, and students alike.

With an average mean grade of 9.34, Lugulu Girls has emerged as the top girls’ school in the entire Western region, dethroning Bunyore Girls, which was leading with 9.12, but still behind Friends School Kamusinga Boys, which remains number one overall with an aggregate score of 9.88 in the national exams.
Lugulu is ahead of the region’s traditionally known high performers, such as Chavakali High School and Kakamega School, which fumbled in the 2024 edition of the tests, registering mean grades of 8.248 and 8.125, respectively.
Principal Dinah said 676 students sat for their exams at the institution, and 672 are proceeding to university. They had 13 straight As, 93 A minuses, 191 B+, 232 B, 118 B-, and 25 C+.
Based on the provisional results as of Saturday, January 18, the university transition rate for Lugulu Girls is 99.41%.
