The NBA all-time leading scorer collaborated with Mercedes-Maybach to create a bespoke sedan featuring personalized touches for family and hometown, with a second model slated for charity auction.
LeBron James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, has added a new chapter to his longstanding affinity for luxury vehicles with the unveiling of a bespoke Mercedes-Maybach S 680, marking the latest addition to a collection that includes Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Rolls-Royce models.
The 41-year-old Los Angeles Lakers forward collaborated directly with Mercedes-Maybach’s Made to Measure customization atelier in Stuttgart, selecting a bone-deep ivory exterior and indigo storm blue leather interior. Personalized touches include etched plaques displaying the birthdates of his three children and the coordinates of his hometown, Akron, Ohio, along with his signature “King James” logo throughout the cabin. A near-identical second S 680 will be auctioned later this year to benefit the LeBron James Family Foundation and I Promise educational initiatives for at-risk youth.
James traces his automotive ambitions back to childhood. Growing up in Akron, he played a game with friends where calling “bingo” on passing cars symbolically “owned” them—a formative influence on his aspiration to own high-end vehicles. His first self-purchased car, a BMW 7 Series, followed a driver’s license and an NBA draft selection that made a personal fleet of exotic cars feasible. He later acquired a Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari models, and a Rolls-Royce, with one outstanding aspiration remaining: a LaFerrari.

The S 680 reflects James’s larger ethos as an athlete and entrepreneur. Standing six-foot-nine, he values the sedan’s spacious rear compartment for work or rest while commuting. The vehicle, priced at nearly $250,000 before customization, underscores both his stature in sports and his engagement with brands capable of supporting bespoke design.
Off the court, James remains focused on his longevity and legacy. Entering his 23rd NBA season, he credits consistent work ethic and respect for the game’s process as key to sustaining elite performance. “I’ve never cheated the process when it comes to my work ethic… I know the Game Gods are always looking down on people who give to the game, and people who cheat the game,” he said.

James also contemplates life after basketball, acknowledging the natural transition while maintaining focus on present performance. “Obviously this has been a hell of a ride, and it continues to be a hell of a ride,” he said. “And I think the next journey will be as well.” For James, the new Maybach is both a symbol of achievement and a vehicle for the next phase of his personal and professional journey.
