Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) will collaborate with the County Government of Embu, in a move to enhance own-source revenue collection and capacity building.

During a courtesy visit to the Governor, Embu County Cecily Mbarire, KRA’s leadership team led by Board Director Darshan Shah and the Ag. Commissioner General (CG) FCCA, CS Rispah Simiyu, informed the Governor that KRA was moving towards converting the informal sector towards compliance.

“KRA has embraced technology for ease of tax compliance, we have come up with a software called electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS), that will enhance VAT compliance. As you transact in the counties, let contractors present an eTIMS-compliant invoice,” she said.

She called on the County to collaborate with KRA on the uptake of eTIMS. Further, KRA has mapped taxpayers into tax service offices, a move that has promoted specialized tax services to taxpayers with ease.

In her remarks, the Governor expressed confidence that with KRA’s help, Embu County would meet its revenue target and move towards exceeding the target.

In her view, KRA will offer the right support that is needed to move forward with fiscal discipline.

“We have decided that we are clearing all our pending bills and starting afresh. We promise to be tax compliant going forward. We as Counties should be leading from the front in compliance. We strive to be one of the best-performing counties in terms of tax payments,” she said.

She mentioned that eTIMS was a better solution for the collection of VAT and would promote compliance.

Earlier in the day, the KRA leadership team had paid a courtesy call on the Regional Commissioner for Eastern Region, Mr Paul Rotich. The Ag. CG commended Mr Rotich for his collaboration with KRA on initiatives to drive taxation at source and deter illicit trade.

KRA assured the Regional Commissioner of support through multi-agency collaborations at the border points, security operations and border management activities.

The engagements were the very first event in the run up to Madaraka Day Celebrations, which will be held at Embu Stadium, bringing together all government agencies, ministries and departments under the theme – MSMEs, Cooperatives, Trade and Revenue.
