KR changes Madaraka Express schedule

The Madaraka Express Passenger Service has revised the train schedules on the Mombasa Nairobi passenger train schedule effective on December 1.

The Inter County service to Mombasa via Athi River, Emali, Kibwezi, Mtito Andei, Voi, Miasenyi, Mariakani stations will be departing Nairobi station in Syokimau at 8am and is expected to arrive in Mombasa by 1pm.

The Nairobi bound one will be leaving the Mombasa station at 7:15am to arrive in Nairobi at 1.15pm after making seven stops along the 472-kilometre line.

The second Madaraka train service will leave the Nairobi terminus at 2:20pm and arrive at 7:20pm, while the second train in Mombasa will leave at 3:15pm and arrive at 8:14pm.

The changes have also affected the commuter train connecting the CBD railway station to the Nairobi station meaning the first commuter train will leave at 06:20am to arrive at the Nairobi station in Syokimau at 7:07am, while the afternoon commuter train will depart from the Nairobi Madaraka station at 1.30pm.

The company says the revise on the schedule is aimed at improving performance, efficiency and overall user satisfaction of the service.

“Since inception of the Madaraka Express, we have made notable changes mostly informed by our stakeholders’ feedback in an effort to provide a smooth service to our customers. Therefore, this timetable revision is a further improvement towards an efficient service.  As the festive season checks in, we expect even more passengers to board the ultra-modern trains as they transverse the country,” Kenya Railways Managing Director, Atanas Maina said.
