Dr Paul Kimani, a distinguished Kenyan lawyer, has been appointed as the Co-Chair for Africa on the Board of the Institute of Transnational Arbitration (ITA), a globally renowned institution dedicated to advancing arbitration as a preferred mechanism for resolving international business disputes.

The ITA, part of the Centre for American and International Law in Houston, Texas, USA, plays a pivotal role in educating business leaders, government officials, and legal practitioners on arbitration while promoting adherence to key international arbitration treaties.

Dr Kimani is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Partner at Paul Andrew Advocates, a Nairobi-based corporate and commercial law firm. He also serves as an Associate Faculty at the School of Law, University of Exeter in the UK, and was previously a Tutorial Fellow at the University of Nairobi’s School of Law.

His impressive credentials include a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Laws from the prestigious University College London (UCL), and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law from the University of Exeter. Over the years, he has been recognized with numerous honors and awards, including accolades from the World Trade Organization, The Lawyer Africa, and the African Excellence Awards.

Dr Kimani has been at the forefront of discussions on the intersection of law, technology, and arbitration. In his new role, he aims to enhance Africa’s presence and influence in the global arbitration landscape, fostering greater participation of African practitioners in international dispute resolution.

Recently, he hosted and moderated a highly successful symposium titled “Arbitration in the Era of Cryptocurrency & Crowdfunding in Africa,” featuring top global professionals.

His areas of specialisation include commercial law, international arbitration, constitutional law, cryptocurrency, and artificial intelligence.

His appointment marks a significant milestone for Kenya’s legal fraternity, reinforcing the country’s position as a key player in the evolving landscape of international arbitration.
