Kenyan volleyball team, the Junior Malkia Strikers, is gearing up for a crucial match against Egypt in the ongoing U20 African Nations Volleyball Championship in Yaounde, Cameroon. This semifinal clash is a key step for Kenya as they aim to secure a spot in the tournament final and continue their pursuit of the championship title.

The championship began on Sunday, August 3, 2025, and will run until Wednesday, August 12, 2025. The tournament has brought together some of the best young volleyball talent from across Africa, showcasing the future stars of the sport. “The Junior Malkia Strikers are just one win away from the finals. This Sunday, August 10, 2025, they face Egypt in the Women’s U20 African Nations Volleyball Championship semifinals in Cameroon,” Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) said.

Kenya has been performing strongly throughout the competition, with hopes high as they approach this important game against Egypt on Sunday, August 10, 2025. According to the Kenya Volleyball Federation, the Junior Malkia Strikers are just one win away from reaching the final.

The stakes are high as Egypt stands between them and a chance to play for the championship trophy. In the other semifinal, the host nation Cameroon will take on Senegal. The winner of that match will face either Kenya or Egypt in the showdown. This meeting between Kenya and Egypt is particularly exciting because the Junior Malkia Strikers already defeated the Egyptian team once during the group stage.

In that earlier match, Kenya triumphed 3-1 with set scores of 25-21, 31-33, 25-19, and 25-21. That victory gave the Kenyan side confidence as they look to replicate that success in the semifinal.

Kenya’s journey to this point has been impressive. They started the championship strongly by sweeping Senegal in straight sets, winning 25-13, 25-12, and 25-11. However, their momentum was briefly halted when hosts Cameroon handed them their first loss in a tight 3-1 match on August 5.

Despite losing the first set 25-18, the Junior Malkia Strikers fought back to take the second and third sets, but ultimately Cameroon sealed the match by winning the fourth set 25-17.

The Kenyan team showed resilience after that loss, bouncing back with strong performances to defeat Uganda and Burundi. The win over Burundi, with set scores of 25-8, 25-17, and 25-13, secured Kenya’s place in the semifinals and reignited their title hopes.

Captain Terry Tata has been a key figure throughout the tournament. The KCB player’s leadership and skills have earned her two Most Valuable Player awards during the preliminary games.

Her presence on the court is expected to be crucial as Kenya faces a tough Egyptian side. Alongside her, Eddah Jepkemei has also been outstanding. She shone brightly in the match against Burundi, earning the MVP honour and proving to be an important asset for the team.

If successful, they will advance to the final scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, 2025, where they will compete for the continental crown.
