Mr Jerim Otieno is a seasoned insurance practitioner with over two decades experience in various roles within the industry.

Mr Jerim Otieno was elected the chairman of the Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) Board during the Association’s 34th annual general meeting of March 2021. Mr Otieno, who is the Group MD Life Insurance Business at UAP Old Mutual Group, takes over from Mr Mathew Koech, the Managing Director of Fidelity Shield.

Mr Koech led the Association since 2019. Mr Otieno takes the helm as the association embarks on a new strategic plan for the period 2021- 2025. During his tenure, he will focus on driving the strategic initiatives that mainly focus on innovation and effective stakeholder engagement to grow the insurance industry.

Mr Otieno is a seasoned insurance practitioner with over two decades experience in various roles within the industry. He has led insurance companies in Kenya and Uganda. He was appointed the Group Managing Director, Life Business of UAP Old Mutual in 2015. He has co-authored a book titled ‘Principles and Practice of Life Insurance Business’.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Nairobi, a Diploma in Life and Disability Underwriting from Assurance Medical University, London and a Certificate of Pension Administration from the World Bank Institute. He is also an alumni of the Advanced Management Program from Strathmore University and IESE Business School.
