An image showing Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga carrying a rifle is altered.

The image, shared online by several social media accounts, including a Twitter account with the handle @HonMkenya, shows the politician in blue police attire walking alone while holding a gun.

In a tweet shared by the account on July 12, 2023, the user captioned the photo, “Commander in Chief of Maandamano Association.”

The image was also shared by Alinur Mohamed on Twitter with the caption, “Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya People’s Forces, H.E Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga”.

The altered image

An investigation by Business Today has found that the image is altered.

A reverse image search on Google shows that the image was taken on July 10, 2023, when the former Prime Minister walked from his home in Karen to take a matatu to Nairobi’s Central Business District.

In the original picture, Raila was neither carrying a gun nor wearing police attire.
