As excitement builds for the Harambee Stars’ knockout-stage clash at CHAN 2024, organisers are rolling out a series of fan zone watch parties, designed to bring the matchday atmosphere to neighbourhoods across Nairobi.

On Friday, August 15, Harambee Stars players and officials took to the streets with a roadshow covering key areas including Riverside, Kasabuni, Baba Dogo, Lucky Summer, Kariadudu, Korogocho, Kariobangi, Mathare, Huruma, Eastleigh, Juja Road, Pangani, and Moi Air Base.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) officials and the technical bench, among them FKF Nairobi West chair Bernard Omondi, Nairobi East chair Dickson Doyo, and women representatives Ruth Mueni and Mercy Auma, joined the caravan.

During the caravan, FKF President Hussein Mohamed urged fans to uphold peace and follow the set rules, to safeguard the footall gains made in the country so far.

“I beg you, let us not destroy the good work we have put in. Let us not cause chaos on Sunday when Harambee Stars play their final group stage match,” Mohamed urged.

Weekend Viewing Parties
Saturday, August 16, will see the first round of viewing parties at Baba Dogo and Clay Works Grounds. Fans can expect on-ground media coverage, live entertainment, and fun competitions, with footballs and scarves up for grabs.

Also, the Local Organising Committee has set up official CHAN fan zones in key cities, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Eldoret. These zones feature giant screens for live match broadcasts, food courts, music, and merchandise stalls. Security is in place, and entry is free or at a minimal charge.

In collaboration with county governments and local businesses, several community grounds and social halls are hosting free screenings of Harambee Stars matches. This initiative aims to bring the tournament to fans who might not be able to travel to host cities.

Many hotels, sports bars, and restaurants have adopted a “matchday experience” approach, screening games and offering themed menus or discounts. Some establishments are partnering with beverage companies to run match prediction challenges and prize giveaways.

For fans who prefer to stay home, CHAN 2024 has an active online presence, with live updates, behind-the-scenes content, and match highlights shared across official social media channels. Supporters can join discussions using the tournament hashtags and even interact directly with players through scheduled online Q&A sessions.
