The government has declared zero tolerance for political violence and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding democratic freedoms, education, and development during a visit to Rutune School in Nyeri County.
In a statement on March 1, 2026, Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo said the current administration remains firmly committed to upholding peace and ensuring that all Kenyans can express themselves without fear or intimidation .
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Omollo emphasized that while every Kenyan has the constitutional right to free expression, such freedoms must be exercised within the law.
“This administration reaffirms its position that hooliganism and disorder will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and security agencies remain vigilant in ensuring accountability and maintaining public order,” he said .
He noted that cases involving violence, intimidation or unlawful mobilization must be addressed through proper legal and investigative channels .
Dr. Omollo highlighted ongoing efforts by National Government Administration Officers, under the leadership of Nyeri County Commissioner Josephat Biwot, to strengthen community safety and tackle emerging social challenges .
Security teams in Nyeri have intensified operations against illicit alcohol and called for closer collaboration between national government officials, chiefs, assistant chiefs, village elders and elected leaders to safeguard lives and preserve social cohesion .
He also raised concern over rising cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), urging communities to work together to protect vulnerable persons and uphold the dignity and safety of all residents .
During the visit, the Interior PS held consultations with the school’s leadership and Sub-County education authorities, pointing to the need to increase student enrollment and improve academic performance .
Despite having adequate teaching staff, Rutune School is grappling with low enrollment, underscoring the need for stronger parental and community involvement .
Dr. Omollo outlined key national education reforms, including the recruitment of over 100,000 teachers, construction of more than 25,000 classrooms, implementation of Competency-Based Education, and reforms in university funding aimed at strengthening human capital development .
He further noted that Nyeri County’s transition rate from primary school to Junior Secondary School currently stands at 99 percent, reflecting strong progress in education continuity .
Principal Secretary for Energy Alex Wachira, who also addressed the gathering, emphasized the importance of education, faith and community support in shaping the future of young people .
He urged students to remain disciplined and focused, assuring them that perseverance and commitment to their studies would open doors to opportunity . He also called on parents, guardians and community leaders to work together to ensure every child has access to quality education .
Dr. Omollo further detailed major development projects underway in Mukurweini Constituency, including road infrastructure projects valued at KSh2.9 billion, construction of modern markets worth KSh162 million, affordable housing projects valued at KSh980 million, and student hostels with a capacity of 3,000 beds .
The projects, he said, demonstrate the administration’s commitment to equitable development, economic growth and improved livelihoods across the country .
Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga was among leaders present at the event, which brought together students, parents, teachers and community members in a show of collective commitment to advancing education and nurturing the next generation of leaders .
