Fox News issued an on-air apology after mistakenly broadcasting archived footage of Donald Trump during coverage of a dignified transfer ceremony for U.S. soldiers killed in the Middle East conflict.
The network said the error occurred during weekend reporting on the ceremony attended by Trump, where the president faced criticism for wearing a white Trump-branded “USA” hat and not removing it while honoring the fallen service members.
According to media reports, Fox News initially aired the correct footage from the ceremony, showing Trump standing alongside Melania Trump and JD Vance while wearing the hat. Subsequent broadcasts, however, used video from an earlier dignified transfer ceremony in which Trump was not wearing headgear while saluting troops who died in Syria.
Weekend host Griff Jenkins acknowledged the mistake during a later segment.
“We want to acknowledge a mistake made earlier in our program,” Jenkins said. “During our coverage of yesterday’s dignified transfer, we inadvertently aired video from an older dignified transfer instead of the ceremony that took place yesterday.”
He added that the network regretted the error and expressed condolences to the families of the service members.
The ceremony honored six U.S. soldiers killed in a drone strike in Kuwait last week. Those killed were Nicole Amor, Cody Khork, Robert Marzan, Maj. Jeffrey O’Brien, Noah Tietjens and Declan Coady.
