A Facebook account bearing the name Renson Ingonga (Mulele) is neither owned nor operated by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga.
The account, which has been using Ingonga’s photos, claims to be the legitimate Facebook account for the DPP.
“I’m the Director of Public Prosecution. I did law degree from University of Nairobi (sic),” the account claims in its bio info.
“Am Renson Ingonga Mulele, current DPP Republic of Kenya. I commit to pursue a threefold agenda which includes building a people-centered prosecution service. My approach will focus on both external & internal stakeholders on a regional & global level. My intention is to inaugurate the establishment of a best practical prosecution network (sic),” the account claims.
Business Today investigated the account and found it to be fake.
President William Ruto appointed Ingonga to be the new DPP on September 20, 2023, to serve for eight years.
On September 25, 2023, Ingonga was sworn in in a ceremony presided over by President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi.
Notably, the account uploaded the first image of Ingonga on November 17, 2023, weeks after he was sworn into office.
On December 12, 2023, the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) issued a statement announcing that the account did not belong to Ingonga.
ODPP, through their verified X (formerly Twitter) account, warned members of the public not to interact with the fake Facebook account.
“FAKE ACCOUNT ALERT: We wish to notify members of the public that the Facebook Account purportedly belonging to Hon. Renson Ingonga (Mulele), the Director of Public Prosecutions (image attached) is fake! Kindly do not interact with it,” ODPP stated.
The Facebook account bearing the name and photos of DPP Renson Ingonga is, therefore, Fake.
