An advertisement calling for online applications for police jobs is fake.
The ad, posted through a Facebook page – ‘Police Service Recruitment 2023/2024’ – claimed that the recruitment portal is open for applications.
“Kenya Police Service Recruitment Portal For 2023 Is Open. This is to inform the general public and all interested applicants that the online application for the 2023 Kenya Police Service cadets recruitment has commenced. The application starts 1st August 2023 and ends 29th September 2023,” the ad reads in part.
The ad indicated that the recruitment was running from August 1 to September 29, 2023. After clicking the ad, users are directed to a website where they are prompted to share personal information like name, phone number, email address, county of residence, and level of education. After providing the required information, they are then urged to share the form with 15 friends or in five WhatsApp groups to qualify for recruitment.
The Facebook page, created on August 4, 2023, has little activity, with 65 followers by the time of publishing this article, while the known Facebook page for the National Police Service has over 200,000 followers.
On August 6, 2023, the National Police Service, through its verified X (formerly Twitter) account, dismissed the ad as fake, clarifying that it was not recruiting.
“Kindly take note, the Commission is not undertaking any recruitment,” the National Police Service noted.
The ad calling on Kenyans to apply for police jobs is, therefore, FAKE.
