A Facebook account bearing the name and photos of Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara is fake and does not belong to the legislator.

The account has been making posts promising its followers winnings in a lottery game through a Madam Rose, who allegedly works with the Ghana National Lottery Authority.

The account shows that the user joined Facebook in 2015 and lives in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

The account also indicates that the user is male, while the MP for Naivasha, Jayne Kihara, is female.

Business Today investigated the account and found it to be fake.

In a statement on her verified Facebook account on August 18, 2023, Kihara dismissed the account as one of the fake accounts running in her name.

“I have only one verified Facebook page. Kindly ignore the fraudsters using my name to create fake accounts. Hon. Jayne Kihara, MP is my official Facebook page, verified with a blue tick,” she stated.

Kihara has been making updates on her activities through her verified Facebook page, unlike the fake account, which has been making lottery advertisements.

The unverified Facebook account making lottery advertisements is, therefore, not associated with Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara.

Kihara was first elected as Naivasha MP in 2003 following the death of her husband, Paul Kihara. She, however, lost the seat in 2007 to John Mututho.

In 2013, she vied for the Nakuru Senate seat but lost before regaining the Naivasha Parliamentary seat in 2017.

She retained the seat in the 2022 General Elections.
