Equitel, Finserve’s mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), has announced the launch of its cutting-edge fifth generation (5G) capabilities in collaboration with their host mobile network operator-Airtel. Building on the success of the previous 4G launch, Equitel in partnership with Airtel is revolutionizing the virtual telecommunications landscape by being the first successful MVNO offering 5G services in Africa, ushering in a new era of fast connectivity for customers.

This milestone will ensure faster and more reliable connectivity that empowers businesses, communities and individuals, enabling them to actively engage in the digital economy. Equitel has introduced its 5G service across over 370 locations nationwide, including towns such as Mombasa, Nakuru, Nairobi, Athi River, Kisumu, Kakamega, Siaya, Eldoret, and Bungoma among others.

In collaboration with the partner network, the 5G service will soon be extended to densely populated areas like residential neighbourhoods, shopping centres and central business districts.

Equitel, already known as the leading mobile banking channel in Kenya, offers customers unparalleled convenience, accessibility, affordability, and ease of transacting through various banking channels. Customers can send money from Equitel-to-Equitel lines for FREE as well as pay for goods and services through the One Equity Till Number at over 1 million merchants countrywide at no cost.

Additionally, Equitel through “my life” offers a platform through which customers access informative content conveniently from their phone. Finserve works with industry experts to ensure customers can access a variety of up-to-date content intended to address their everyday needs and therefore boost the quality of life.

Equitel says its commitment to delivering superior connectivity experience is further underscored by the introduction of enticing data bundle offers for its customers. To mark this milestone, Equitel will offer a 100% bonus on data bundles every Wednesday and Friday.

To enjoy Equitel 5G services, customers need to have a 5G capable device supported by a 4G-LTE SIM card. If a customer is still using a 3G SIM card, they are requested to visit their nearest Equity branch, where dedicated Equitel representatives will be on standby to assist with the seamless transition.
