Eillene Achieng’ Otieno, a subtle and elegant actress known for her beloved character as Senje on one of the most popular Showmax Original thrillers, Igiza, which premiered in May 2022, has died.

The cause was complications from a leg infection, according to a statement from her family and an Instagram post by Sinema Focus, a local platform covering film, TV and theatre news, reviews, and industry analysis.

“Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Eillene Otieno, who passed away yesterday due to complications from a leg infection,” Sinema Focus announced.

As Senje in Igiza – a warmhearted and sassy but strict prison guard – Eillene, alongside main cast members such as Serah Ndanu as Linda, Kevin Samuel as Reggie, and popular actor Blessing Lungaho as Dominic, quickly won over millions of viewers, helping to carry the show through to 2024 with a total of 13 episodes now streaming.

Eillene, a mother of two, made her national breakthrough with Igiza, a story of revenge between twin sisters Linda and Nicole. Her success led to roles in Maisha Magic’s telenovela Shanga and the police mockumentary Black & Blue by Showmax in 2024.
