According to the Business Insider, recipients of the award also get a ‘YouTube branded gift card for video equipment and a camera case.’

There are three categories of the awards: Silver Creator Award (100,000+ subscribers), Gold Creator Award (1million+ subscribers) and Diamond Creator Award (10million+ subscribers).

In October last year, KTN was awarded the Silver Play Button by Google after surpassing 100,00 subscribers on its channel.

Kenyan artiste Nyashinski and comedian Njugush were among those who also won the Silver Play Button prize.

In the latest awards, Protel Studios, an independent TV and Radio production company, and Africha Entertainment, an audio and digital content distributor, were also feted with the Diamond Creator Award.

YouTube has gained popularity in the country over the years with Kenyan content creators moving to the platform in droves.

Caroline Mutoko (75,000+ subscribers), Esther Mundia (50,000+ subscribers) and Janet Mbugua (30,000+ subscribers) are some of the media personalities with top YouTube channels.
