It’s that time of the year again when many Kenyans put their activities aside and focus on festivities ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations. It’s also a period of increased spending and retailers are cashing in.
For leading online retailer Jumia, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCGs) are expected energize sales this Christmas in a campaign dubbed Krisi na Jumia – Twende Ocha which will also see a goat sell for @999!
For the second time this year, Jumia has partnered with Kiserian herders to sell goats at 95% discount during flash sales for the first lucky shoppers to the site, between Friday 30th November and December 18th 2018.
Jumia’s success over this year’s Black Friday is apparent. According to figures released by the company, an estimated 12 million Kenyan customers are expected to visit the site over the month of November, showing an increase of 8% compared to last year’s Black Friday.
While sales traditionally focused on mobile phones and electronics, this year’s best sellers have been FMCG products. The company launched the grocery category in 2017, aiming at driving higher repeat purchase from their customer base.
At the look of things, Jumia is really giving the traditional offline supermarkets a run for their money.
At the launch of the “Krisi na Jumia – Twende Ocha!” campaign, the e-commerce giant confirmed that, once again, groceries would be at the heart of their festival offer. In a bid to become the destination retailer for the Christmas period, the company will be offering up to 70% off on unga (maize flour), wheat flour, sugar, BlueBand, rice and other festive products.
“Jumia is now your one-stop-shop in Kenya and this Christmas our customers can host friends and relatives affordably and even travel to Ocha with our deals this year,” said Jumia Kenya PR manager Pauline Masese.
The 2018 edition of Jumia Black Friday sales began on November 2nd with the sale’s culmination on Friday the 30th , kicked off with a flash sale of a goat (mbuzi).
