ChildFund Kenya has disbursed Ksh64 million in form of cash transfers to 18,480 vulnerable households in 26 counties across the country. ChildFund decided to utilize its emergency response funds to respond to the emerging COVID-19 needs of vulnerable households in the communities it serves.

The contributions, done between March and May 2020, are intended to enable families access hygiene kits including hand-washing facilities, as well as meet their basic nutritional needs.  ChildFund has also been supporting awareness efforts on prevention and control of COVID-19.

ChildFund Country Director Chege Ngugi said COVID-19 has caused disruptions to families globally, more so to children, who are the most vulnerable.

“We are committed to assisting vulnerable families, and we shall continue to do so on a rolling window basis,” Ngugi said. “We understand that these are tough times and we shall endeavor to support as many families as we can within our emergency funds kitty.”

The funds have been channeled through 13 implementing partners, including Nawiri Children’s Program, Samburu Children’s Program, Childrise Development Program, Pioneer Child Development Program, Metropolitan Child Care Organization, Ewang’an Child Development Program and Eastern Community Development Program. The others are Lake Region Development Program, Mt Kilimanjaro Child Development Program, Frontiers Children Development Organization, Emali Dedicated Children’s Agency, Kisumu Development Program and  Central Rift Community Development Program.

Ngugi appealed to more partners and individuals to come on board in transforming the lives of vulnerable families.
