Mombasa-based Radio Salaam has lost popular journalist Sammy Mwaura to rival Baraka FM.

The young journalist, who has a huge following at the Coast due to his mastery of the Swahili language and prowess in news production and anchoring quit the station after serving for five years.

In a Facebook post, Mwaura said he has officially joined Baraka FM where he will be hosting Chanja Maswala, a political and current affairs news programme.

His entry at the station comes at a time when it is trying to source for another news reporter after the exit of award winning health guru Diana Wanyonyi who was poached by a South African media house.

Unlike Radio Salaam, Baraka FM is doing better due to its huge listenership.

Radio Salaam has been on and off air due to financial constraints. Most journalists working there are volunteers.

Baraka FM is, however, also suffering in terms of adverts and some of its reporters have not been paid for several months forcing majority to leave.
