Real estate firm Myspace Properties visited Isiolo in the latest phase of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign supporting Kenyans living with disabilities.
The campaign has so far seen Kenyans with hearing difficulties receive assistive devices. The devices go a long way in enabling individuals to engage with their communities and sustain income generating ventures.
The cost of hearing aids puts them out of reach for many who need them.
The latest beneficiary, for instance, is Daniel, an Isiolo-based electrician.
He received hearing aids following intervention from Myspace Properties CEO Mwenda Thuranira.
With the hearing aids, Daniel is able to improve his interactions not only with family and friends but with customers as well.
“Hearing is often taken for granted by normal people because people don’t understand how privileged they are to hear. I hope we can all participate and help people who are in need.
“The smile on his (Daniel’s) face when he heard people talking was heart-warming and I hope people understand how important it is to have such blessings,” the Chief Executive observed.
Thuranira noted that social acceptance was key for differently abled individuals to thrive within communities.
“Social acceptance and aid should motivate people to help others living with disabilities to shape the society to be a better place for all,” he asserted.
According to government data, Kenya has more than 187,000 people living with hearing disability.
Many of them come from rural areas and underprivileged backgrounds.
Myspace, which has ventures in Nairobi and Mombasa among other regions in Kenya, aims to support this demographic with resources and tools to improve their lives.
